Kindness and Respect

After thinking about this last night, I've decided that I'm neither unkind, nor disrespectful, unless I feel you deserve either.
While we're very happy to have you in the Gulch and appreciate your wanting to fully engage, some things in the Gulch (e.g. voting, links in comments) are a privilege, not a right. To get you up to speed as quickly as possible, we've provided two options for earning these privileges.
Carol cannot initiate a PM.
As a woman who is almost always perceived as a scary angry bitch at first meetings, then often told "I don't know why I was afraid of you.", I think I deal with the same issues or events you're talking about.
I'm concerned that you seem to be separating '''using kindness and respect" from "saying exactly what you mean" and I'd like to know if we're in the same boat.
Feel free to PM me, of course.

From Where is Circuit Guy. It had to do with how a person takes criticism of himself, and devolved into when to use kindness and respect and when to say exactly what you mean.
