Technically, the functional role of the CIA is in dealing with matters foreign while the FBI deals with matters domestic. The CIA holds zero law enforcement power. The FBI is the premier law enforcement entity in the United States, with preemption over many types of local cases (abduction, hostage negotiation, terrorism, etc.).

With the CIA, you have to worry about getting caught violating the laws of other countries, but the CIA typically doesn't operate here in the United States. The FBI is precisely the opposite: they have zero jurisdiction or activity outside the United States but are very active inside and are constrained directly by Federal law.

With the FBI, we have direct oversight and open committee hearings. With the CIA, the committee hearings are closed-door, so there is certainly truth about a difference in transparency.

As to the 17 agencies, I think most were foreign. From the documentation gathered, it is now known that at least the UK and Australia had intelligence agency operatives who were politically motivated to work with the Democrats against Donald Trump. I would be very surprised if the KGB weren't involved as well as the Ukrainians - whose new President was elected about the same time as Trump.

Is the Deep State still in operation? Assuredly. I have no illusions that treasonous activities stopped just because Trump was elected. If anything, I'm betting that they intensified, but with the scope of operations being different (foreign vs domestic), I see a completely different set of actions and outcomes.

I think it would be a closer characterization to say that we don't know as much about it as with the FBI. The difference is logical if one simply compares the functional roles of the two agencies. The FBI is public facing whereas the CIA is shrouded in secret deriving directly from their role.

Having said that, think about this: when the "Russian conspiracy" hoax broke, the left kept repeating on the MSM that 17 security agencies confirmed its validity (they never disclosed who these 17 were; if I wreck my brains I can only come up with 3).

Which means that the Deep State is just as much alive in the CIA as it has been made under Obama over 8 years. Do you assume that the CIA is nothing more but a professional intelligence agency destined to protect the country?
