If there were some way to bet money on it, I would be that within two years every nutjob Trump supporter will have an easy way to get their message out and most people will hardly remember this time when mainstream social media and hosting got aggressive about kicking people off. It would be hard to execute such a bet because the Trump-supporting conspiracy-theory world is based on grievance and victimhood. They're not about policies. They're about whining about being victims and being "treated very unfairly", so I'm almost sure they'll still feel cheated in two years. But they'll have an easy and cheap way to stay stupid things. If they don't, I will try to create one. I really believe their right say unpopular, uninformed, mean-spirted, factually incorrect things is absolute. It doesn't matter IMHO if foreigners are taking advantage of it. The right to free speech isn't there to protect popular speech. It's for things we find reprehensible. I don't believe Parler is trying to find new hosting; they'd rather have the grievance issue, but if they and those like them don't find a way to speak quickly, I will look into what I can do to help. I think the right to express unpopular ideas is sacrosanct.

Sorry,I was just pointing out the frailty of all electronic communications. As far as I can tell, there is always a way to monitor. The example of using metadata to prove the DNC hack was local and NOT Russia proved that to me.

AJ, how SURE are you of no backdoors, no holes in your software, connections or even remote hosts? One of the whole issues with the vote was the certification by Dominion that their equipment was NOT connected to the internet, yet they proved their tabulators WERE connected all the time, and then they daisy chain tot all the other devices. So who was lying? We now have testimony by the guy who loaded the software for the vote rigging, pictures of 2 of the 3 MI6 Brit techs who did the algorithm jiggering, and a map of the data flow. All of this for systems supposedly bullet proof. MIcrosoft is continually patching "weaknesses" and "security holes" so it would seem someone can hack anything, given enough time. But VPNs are a lot harder, unless you have a way to circumvent their encoding, or you can get their keys, depending on how they do their encoding, so I would say they probably already have the back doors installed by whoever did their coding. I would rather see a VPN where you create your own hastag and use it on your end and have some means for them to unencrypt suing a separate method. Thats why I still haven't signed up for a VPN yet, no one has proven to me they have all the back doors closed and sealed, and can prove no one can decrypt or access.

I just messaged Parler explaining how they can easily prevent this from happening again with a little bit of planning and some preventive backup measures. Hopefully they'll listen. My bigger concern is the service problems I've been having the last couple of days with Parler and AONN, this was before the Amazon fiasco. I suspect its a harbinger of things to come if things stay the course in DC.

The problem with your assessment, which isn't untrue, is that you're comparing two distinctly different periods in time. Since those days of magazines tremendous advancement in communications have occurred office people around the world the ability to read ideas and speak their minds at a level unparalleled by any time in human history (that we know if).

Compare what we are poised to see shortly to what we had 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago and what you see is a decline in freedom of expression. Why? Because when businesses figured out how to profit from the web (I recall when they didn't) the accumulation of data - corporate and personal became a commodity. Search engines started hoarding and selling 'analytics' to politicians to use to target their audiences. This targeting has allowed for 'some' to realize their message wasn't resonating and to seek restrictions on others ability to speak, others who's message was better received than theirs. And here we are, watching tyrants poised to take office and their MSM/SM enablers salivating at removing the competition for lack of "moderation." Essentially, if you don't say something as we structure it need be said then you can't speak.

No, we are far worse off when it comes to free speech then 20-30 years ago. Back then, when I began in IT (using CompuServe), I didn't have to register - give my name, my company, my email, and corporate or personal information to attain drivers or even download music (Napster).

That is why VPNs are rocketing in subscribers now, too. Although, like all tech, they are subject to hacking, and we will also probably;y see them banned in the next 3 months. If you want to see our future, just go look at articles on China.

It seems to me that in a short period of time (25 years) the gatekeepers have collapsed. Before 25 years ago, it was a fact that the press was only free to those who own one. In the past ten years, I've seen companies try to find a way to add value in such a way they become the gatekeepers. I think the world is trying to figure out how to deal with this absence of gatekeepers. I am optimistic that now that the technology exists, it will be difficult to un-ring that bell, and get back to the world of gatekeepers. Consider this things with Parler. They've taken out of the app store, but it was a simple matter for me to download it from the site and install it on my phone. People who 25 years ago would have struggled to get their ideas out on BBS and with 'zines now have it easier than ever. I remember seeing those things in the back of magazines, "Read about what really goes on in the secret meetings of the powerful. Send $1." I don't know if anyone ever wrote to request the pamphlet. But those people have it way easier now.
