    Are we getting confused by not knowing the Ukrainian language? The word медична, medychna, means medical. It (the word) has nothing to do with China, and is not spelled медчина (medchyna) which is a different word that means medicine.

      Yes they are confused. One cannot apply English pronunciations to a foreign language. Another ridiculous pronunciation that the English speakers get wrong is Kiev. Now they are pronouncing Kiev as Keev as in Heave.which is what I feel every time they mispronounce the city. It is Kay you or Key You. Not Keeeeeeeev
      Don't get me started on Kharkiv - pronounced Charkyou with a flegm and sibilant CH as in eeech. or Blech. . .Not Car Keev. There is that Keev again. AAAAH!!

        Doubtful. ціна (tsina) is price. чина (chyyna), which means rank, looks slightly the same but is a different word. The accident that it's part of the word медчина is no different than the way the word "cine" (as in cinema) is part of our word medicine, or on a more political level, that "man" is part of the word human or the word manifest. Maybe good for making jokes and puns, but not for analyzing the meaning of words. Those games are disingenuous when spewed as serious political weaponry. Of course we can get a good chuckle out of pronouncing Biden as buy-dem.

        Bring up Google Translate, which is often very good for SVO languages, but not so much for Latin. Ask for English to Ukrainian and you'll find Київ, which transliterates as Kyyiv and which gets a pronunciation something like KEE-yev. There are distinctions in pronunciation of Slavic languages to which I am tone-deaf, and I'll bet you are too. I'm not up on the meaning of the choices of Keev vs Kee-yeff vs whatever else.

        The use of a particular word, spelling or pronunciation can be a touchstone or a shibboleth, identifying you as belonging one or another of the accepted or canceled groups of the moment. Lord help you if you say "Democrat Party" or if you still think "Red" means Communist.

    Curious, in relation to "covid19", when it has been determined that the US Gov has been underwriting these Biolabs, should the families of people designated as 'injured' by that illness pursue litigation as plaintiffs versus corporate US.? Not business corp, but the political incorporated state of the US.

    Interesting that the US stock market is not plummeting as it did in past "wars". Is this a real war or just a cleansing?
