Common Core Base 10 Way To Add 9 + 6 Takes 54 Seconds | The Daily Caller
Now lets see, 9+6 = 15. All kinds of ways to look at it but who the heck ever thought to describe it a "much more comfortable"? Please get the social engineers out of the basics, we already have a nation of idiots, now the idiots want to teach more idiots?
Last year the state began sending our high school math teachers the lessons they were instructed to teach. 2 math teachers left last year, and so would I if treated like that.
If the college board starts AP testing the new math it's over. We'll need to import all future engineers.
Have fun!
"Earlier this month, Canada’s National Post reported that a group of neuroscientists has issued a study finding that rote memorization of discrete math facts plays a critical role in mathematical development in young children.
"In short, the study found, memorizing multiplication tables and answers to basic arithmetic problems is cognitively vital because, without such memorization, children will have a much harder time later on with complex math problems."
I've been saying this for years. I watched my son and his classmates learn math in ways that discarded "rote memorization," and those kids were doing addition and multiplication on their fingers in 4th and 5th grade. I, and I'm sure many other Galt's Gulchers, had the multiplication tables memorized by heart in 1st grade. It was just like grammar; not so much fun to learn, but an essential building block. Now we have a society that can't write and lacks basic numeracy, and the education establishment pushes for more gobbledygook.
THE FUTURE youth? That's what we're looking at with kommon kore.
It's just as easy to measure in pints, quarts and gallons *if you are trained to do so*.
Likewise, it's just as easy to add 9 + 6 as it is 10 + 5.
At any point do they take 9 of something combine it with 6 of something else, and have the kids count the results?
