889 Ghost towns in Texas. You might need to bring a couple of truckloads of fertilizer for the first year or two as the soils are not friendly to farming. But you will be in the USA and left pretty much on your own to make your own future. Check out Sheffield, not a ghost town, but thriving in the oil country with 600 residents.

    The midwest and southwest are spotted with old mining sites, and former military bases (some with underground bunkers and/or airfields), with the elements of support infrastructure (wells, water treatment facilities, power stations) that may be recoverable. Those might be more desirable for setting up a gulch site, and most still have navigable roads that are unmarked, with access from maintained highways.

    I like it Mike. What level of freedom would be acceptable for you. On the grand scale of things Texas is relatively free, but even here state regs are burdensome, unless one is willing to be an agorist. There is one of the towns near me if anyone cares for more info.
