Arbitrary promotion practice?

So I just had to ask the question: if the guy has been doing a great job, why does he have to have a degree to get promoted?

I have an undergrad and MBA, but I look at this as a pretty arbitrary nod to the education establishment.

The other question I have is this: WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST FINISH THE DEGREE?

Yeah...looks like it was just the claiming that he had a degree, while he didn't, that got him in a pinch. Maybe he figured that since he landed himself a decent job that he didn't need to finish his degree. Some people get comfortable and complacent when it comes to finishing, furthering or continuing their education.

It is not clear from the article that he had to have the degree to be promoted, rather it looks like the background investigation revealing that he didn't have a degree he claimed was the proximate reason.
