Unfortunately, Trump lied about who pays the tariffs. They are just an excuse to apply a disguised TAX on the citizens of the USA. The tariffs are collected by the customs people from the importers like me, and then those costs are passed on to customers like I have to do. I understand Trump is trying to cut back on the uneven trade balance and the printing of money, and he has only some limited options to do that while NOT seeing to raise taxes. I do think the DOGE efforts are GREAT. Spending is the hardest thing to cut, and he is just doing that !!!!!

I didn’t mention Trump as compared to Biden. I will say the Trump administration has lied when it says tariffs are paid by the exporting country when we import from China. That just isn’t true. A tariff is essentially a sales tax paid by the importing party.

Trump wants us to NOT buy globally from any country that doesnt buy the same amount from us, or is balanced out by others who buy more from us than we buy from them. If we were on the gold standard, this wouldnt be an issue, but our government wants the ability to print money to buy votes, and you cant print gold.

I think applying 145% tariff invites a response, and that response was expected, and is a way for both countries to better assess how much cessation of trade would hurt them. Obviously neither country could withstand the instant stoppage of supply chains without major depressions. Threrefore, there will be negotiation and some lower tariff or NO tariff will be agreed upon with concessions in other things.

Alll the politically connected people will get breaks, and the rest of us will gete the shaft. I am happy that Trump is slowing down his lies about the foreign countries are the ones who pay the tariffs. Anyone in business knows this is a lie and the purchaser of the import is the one who pays the tariff in the end.
