    What ever happened to the marketplace of ideas? Left with the marketplace for goods and services?

    "Independent thinkers". Could be the noun in the name is the problem. Most people don't think. They think they think. Really, the regurgitated something thought by another, and blame us for that.

    The attitude you recommend is closely related to not accepting unearned guilt. But not to care at all how others feel in response to words or actions of ours treads dangerously close to sociopathy rather than fair-minded independence. Once past the initial humor of this post, it made me think a little deeper about longer-range consequences of putting others down. It's the missing other half of the prime directive, "...nor ask another to live for mine."

    It really pisses people off that we independent thinkers are never offended by anyone but always offend. They think they have the same power over us as we them. But they are to ignorant to understand that being offended is something you allow others to do to you.

    Have I got a blog for you! Go to Pharyngula (freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula), find any post related to feminism or race relations, and speak your mind in the comments. You'll offend a lot more than two people, and they'll all be sure to let you know it.
