While we're very happy to have you in the Gulch and appreciate your wanting to fully engage, some things in the Gulch (e.g. voting, links in comments) are a privilege, not a right. To get you up to speed as quickly as possible, we've provided two options for earning these privileges.
Hard commodities (coins of gold, silver, copper), a medical kit, passport, your ID, small to medium flashlights, a small firearm, $500+ actual cash, and some high-protein snacks. A pocket knife, a radio, spare batteries, wind-proof matches, gloves and your phone list of friends & family (you don't want THEM to get it would you?)
That should cover most of it. But realistically, you should be able to get this together in about 5 minutes time, depending on how organized you keep your stuff. (See my George Carlin post on "stuff".) =)
Yes, in such a scenario, you would have to take a huge loss, but what would you want to deny the bastards of the most? This should govern your preparation in making a BOB.
Is it all kept in his "rack"?
I decided to test the strength of my old ones at Gibson Research Corporation's site and after awhile they estimated it would take 154 years using 1 computer to crack it. Try it some time, just make sure it's not a password you're currently using.
maybe ham language
my dad gave it to my son one year for his birthday. my dad gives odd presents. he also gave him a remote controlled hot air balloon with camera and a working steam engine from germany. he gave me a reel to reel tape recorder when I was in 2nd grade. He also gave me miniature electric car sets when I was little. it was fun, but I am suspicious he just wanted to play with these things himself.
I wan the looong list. is there a goto website you use, uncommon?
Build the Perfect Bug-out Bag by Creek Stewart. Detailed chapters for what you need and WHY you need it; checklist at the end for one-stop basic BOB assembly at a big-box store for around $300. My BOB was already in process when I found this book, but it brought out several things I hadn't thought about.
I keep seeing you say that you're outside the U.S. - where?
I did buy a few books for ideas, can't list them at the moment.
seriously, we need decorative BOB containers.
"my BOB is 50% ready"
you'll have to do better than that before you go announcing it! lol
oh, and what's the best kind of lock to have on your door? double key?
