I watched this movie last night... Elderly man perfectly capable of building a house on his own land to help care for his wife has to fight for the right to do what he wants with, and on, his own property. And pay surmountable fees on top of it all..... Based on a true story (of course). :(

    We pay for it
    
    We pay a lease on it to the government
    
    We pay fees to do anything with it, and even after paying the fees get told we cant do what we want in the way we want.
    
    When we die we pay for it again due to estate taxes.
    
    The answer is just do not earn more than you really need to live. Your punished if you do anything more than that. What a world, what a world....

I'll have to check this out. I was reading thru the reviews and they were excellent. A strange point. One of the reviewers noted at one point that most reviews gave it 8 stars or higher and the rating shown was 4.8. It has since increased but that sounded strange to me.

    It does now. When that person posted it said 4.8 and I'm guessing it should have been higher. It could have just been a glitche but I wonder if some losers gave it a real low score on purpose to bring the average down???

Haven't seen it, but James Cromwell is one of the best character actors filmdom has produced. We shall give it a look.

Sounds like more than a few echoes of "Calumet 'K'". Will have to see if it's available "somewhere".

Of course the opposition in "Calumet 'K'" was a private company. These days, it's "the government".

I loved this movie. James Cromwell has a beautiful, strong face. Here's another great eminent domain movie:The Castle, Australian. 1992. A strong message of freedom, served up with humor. Great courtroom scene.

  I remember him as Zephram Cochran, the inventor of the hyperdrive in Star Trek: First Contact and as Prince Philip in The Queen; a very versatile actor, indeed. He also played the man behind positronic robots in I, Robot, the movie based upon the Asimov classic. I think he is still alive.
