My guess re his continued missing appendages is he whacked them off which his mishandled, misguided axe... Shouldn't have attacked that kindling au naturale...
What I kinda sorta want to know is this - Since when did life become a flipping costume party?
Didn't say or mean that... 'comfortable' is fine... but many took that to the 'sloppy' extreme. Like many guys have....
Around the early 1970s, I was the first guy in my engineering department to lose the narrow black tie and go to the more au-courant colored and wider ties. Others followed. Some time in the late 80s, I lost the suit-and-tie costume for customer visits and on-site presentations, and the customers appreciated that, too, since they had wanted to lose the monkey-suits and formality so that real work and communication could happen without the facades. I only wore a suit and tie for customer presentations where serious cultural standards had to be met... some corporate guests from Europe and the Far East saw me in that garb, but as soon as the presentation was over and I headed back to my cubie, I lost the tie and jacket. Ah, me... such a maverick. In my own mind, anyway... :)
They are called hipsters.. I know because my brother in-law is like this. You can usually find them drinking expensive craft bear while they complain to their friends, who are exactly like them, about how Obamacare is great because nobody should have to pay for healthcare right after they get back from vacationing in Europe or Thailand.
lol yeah, this is pretty much how it goes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTcvmmOk... I have a conservative, ex-Marine, lesbian, objectivist sister with an objectivist, conservative, Jewish, former Air Force girlfriend and a hipster, ultra liberal sister with a hipster, ultra liberal, borderline communist husband.. our holiday dinner conversations are AWESOME!
I don't think so, I will invite her though. The only reason I ever picked up an AR novel was because I recognized the name from her book collection and I was curious so really thanks to her I am here. :)
I don't know about everybody else but I have been that way since the 70's. I grew up in the North Woods of Wisconsin where you dressed that way to stay warm during the 9 months of winter. It would snow in October and you would not see green grass until May. Anyway, flannel and warm boots have been part of my wardrobe since, even when I moved to Colorado. The only problem I have is now the things are harder to find and more expensive because of the fad.
I had Fleet Farm where I grew up in Wisconsin and used to shop there quite a bit. However, Where I am in New Mexico, we do not have those. I have Gebo's and Tractor Supply but they are not real big on clothing.
I'm heading to Manitowoc in two days....what can I get you? I make the East / West transit quite often. I remember Gebo's and TS when I lived in Lubbock. How work clothes became "trendy" I'll never guess....hard to keep pace with the rate of change...reference Morris Massey "what you are is where you were when".
Thanks, I find most of my stuff online now. I use Giant, 1791 and a couple of other sites for work jeans and t-shirts. For flannel and boots, I use Duluth Trading or some other similar site. Being retires military I have several places available for boots including US Cavalry and the military clothing store on Cannon AFB.
Cannon AFB....last TDY...Sep. 88' they didn't have canvas Mukluks. Had to trade Minot and Grand Forks for those. Military canvas Mukluks haven't been "merchandised" yet.....they are expensive enough as is. Invaluable in YOOPER LAND!
I was in the Navy myself but I spent 6 years in Idaho at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) in Idaho Falls, well, the desert outside the city.Anyway, used to Mountain Home and Malmstrom AFB's for clothing. They had plenty of cold weather gear available. Now I don't need that much down here and the utility I work for fitted me with a lot of outdoor insulated gear.
Well met...and thank you for your service. You know, if this work apparel trend continues to be "trendy", I'm afraid my occupational "unique" may end up being perceived as societal "eunuch"!
What are going to Manitowoc for? I grew up in Stevens Point (where family is from) and Minocqua (where grand parents lived. Went to school at MTU in Houghton for a year, then Madison at UW for another until I ran out of money. No loans, but that was back in 1978. Still have relatives all over Wisconsin and the Yooper but they are slowly dying off.
Parents and Grandmother still live there. Also have a Japanese guest arriving...friend of family. I have some interesting questions for our guest, as he has been appointed Chairman of the Japanese Finance Commission a little over a year ago. I'm presenting him my copy of The Virtue of Selfishness....we'll see how this goes over.
I'm bummed about my work pants...15 years. Dickies has stopped my "size" in double knee heavy weight denim. I'm looking but not finding....hope my clothing is never defined within this genre.
Look for bobsstores.com I think that's the right site name. Bob's clothing stores have a good selection of work clothes such as one would wear for construction, etc.
Appreciate the lead....no going. Trying to find industrial grade in a 31 to 32 waist with 36 inseam.... If I go to a 34 waist.....my butt looks big! Hehehe!
in re Castrosexuals.... I think that's been a trend for those reveling in the "just out of the closet" lifestyle for a few decades now... oh.. not *that* Castro...
On a similar related note, however, I know of more than one "Woman's woman" who has worn the trappings of the "Lumbersexual" since the 1970's... flannel shirt, work Levi's, and logger's boots. It was part of the "individualistic look" that those involved in that movement required each other to wear...
Just another attempt to label and deride men in this society. Emasculating America has become a high-dollar endeavour, and it's effects are seen in our media and marketplace everyday.
I've grown really tired of the labeling, and most especially the way men are portrayed on TV. I guess the making us all look effiminate and stupid makes the POTUS seem masculine and intelligent by comparison.
Maybe your response was inspired by seeing Putin on the sidebar. I thought about using the following link but it did not fit into the theme of this thread. Until now--
Seen a few around Seattle. The beards are thin and fuzzy. The hands are probably too soft. They will have no wood cutting skills. To me one of the joys of being a man was the simplicity. Shower, shave, comb my hair, throw on some clothes, wallet, and keys. I am ready for anything. What man would consider whether or not his plaid was in season?
What ever happened to a man who was comfortable in his own skin, rather than following some fashion fad? Serious - if you work in an office, LOOK like you work in an office. If you work in the woods, then look like you work in the woods. This is no different than that silly "urban cowboy" fad that took hold in the City years ago - boys following the dress-up fashion mags instead of (--gasp!--) being men..
I do have to say, tho... at least they disbanded the manskirt (NOT a kilt, which IMO is totally sexy as heck - a flipping skirt) and man-purse look... I can be pretty open to someone's choice of dress, but every time I saw that it kinda made my stomach lurch when I saw it.
I was stationed in Lubbock Tx in the late 80''s. Big hats..no cows. One of these "urban cowboys" was giving me a little grief about my sneakers. So...I had to ask...did he know the origin of his "boots"??? He wasn't too clear on this point. So...I explained the circumstance of shepherds and the need for a taller "upper" to keep dew from saturating their leggings. I then began to expound on the secondary purpose....to keep the sheep's legs constrained.....and the fight was on!
I probably would have let it go if not for the "Tartan" on his slip-tie. I may have asked something to the effect of; "Why do Scotts wear kilts?" (Sheep can hear a zipper a mile away) I took a right-cross with dignity. I did make it to the bar..ordered two tap Pearl.....and offered a toast to sheep p**s! We were drinkin buds the rest of the night.
I'd love to wear a kilt...oh, the comfort....oohhhh....
People tell me all the time I look like Brett Favre and...yeah, I do. Those recent ads with him for the hair trimmer or tossing a football in his jeans make me cock my head and go "...wait a minute...". That's pretty much me when I'm not in slack and tie. Always been like that. I worry about guys who wear wingtips on their down time. Something very wrong there...
I welcome this. I spend a lot of time in the city due to my work. I have seen a lot of the young guys with the beards and flannel and I get a kick out of it, really. I have been wearing flannel and boots on my down time for years - and on me it looks good (according to the feedback I get from my wife and her lady friends). No beard for me, though. Gets in the way of my rugged jaw....lol
lol. db has a rugged jaw but can't really grow a beard...so that worked out. I visit my daughter in LA, and I have noticed the beard thing-most of the young men look like they'd jump 10 feet in the air if I yelled" boo" it's sad really.
In the NYC area a "beard" is someone taking the place of someone else. Every time I see a guy with a beard, I wonder, "What are you hiding?" The possible exceptions are those Duck Dynasty people, but even then those duckers seem to always be in disguise.
Those are actually an affectation for the TV show. They weren't like that prior to the show. That show backfired on the producers. They expected to be making fun of these backwards hicks. Backfired them all the way to the bank, 'though!
They weren't the stupid backwoods hicks those producers assumed them to be. They assumed anyone not from the LA/NYC urban snakepit areas to be some goofball Larry, Darryl, and the other brother Darryl with an IQ in the single digits, and exploitable... not someone who had good business sense and the ability to exploit an opportunity dropped in their laps.
All the way to the bank, baby! I didn't watch the show at the beginning thinking it was just going to be some Hollywood a-holes making fun of the Louisiana hicks. Don't remember who clued me in, but I ended up tuning in one night, and was blown away at the display of common sense, Midwest type values and non-vulgar humor, and I've been a fan ever since.
what is the constant attraction to sexuality? one day you post that young men and women are keeping their distance from each other now its sexuality based upon what you wear on your body and face. how is this going to change any aspect of the world we live in? who cares? me thinks it is getting boring! let the washington and hollywood type saturate themselves with this discussion.
"what is the constant attraction to sexuality?" LOL wiggys-stay off these posts if you don't care for them! sheesh. I post valuable content on this site several times a week. I don't often see you commenting on my philosophy posts.

Haven't worn one yet, but I dream of the day - trust me. Maybe when I retire and smash my cell phone...
a kilt is raised, it canna be lowered by willpower alone... the challenge is on, my friend...
Yeah, the beard thing is funny, isn't it? But, at least the look is more masculine than the metrosexual thing that went on for too long. So, I dig it.

I think what's hilarious is that these are the same jokers so busy protecting the forests they don't even think for themselves!!! LOL!
