    From an interview with the journalist David Halberstam in April 1967: “Now I feel quite differently. I think you’ve got to have a reconstruction of the entire society, a revolution of values.” Such a reconstruction, he explained, entailed many of the characteristics long associated with Socialism, such as a “multibillion dollar Marshall Plan” for the cities, a guaranteed national income for the poor and government control of major industries.

    Great Dream, Great Society, and the inevitable results... No, his dream was not hijacked; it was carried out to it's logical conclusion.

    That's not a result of Rev. King's speeches or actions. It's just too bad that the successor to his pulpit, Jesse Jackson, wasn't worthy of it. That might well have been different if the government hadn't murdered King at the age of 40.

    Yes...MLK's dream got hijacked by some thugs who clamor to stay relevant at the cost of those they pretend to be helping. Heck..we could say that about the state of the present day American Dream, as far as that goes. I do believe we are screwed.

    MILl's message was positive but the race boaters and our liberal education system has basterdized it. The Al Sharptens and Jessie Jackson's have risen on the backs of the people they claim to help. Keep them suppressed and angry and Sharpten gets invites to the white house.

    This started with a comment by strugatsky that "he sought a faster and an easier solution through government dictate." That wasn't MLK, but those who followed. All MLK wanted was for those laws that dictated difference be removed. He fully embraced content of character and advocated that the black community use such character as the basis for their improvement. Unfortunately blacks are much worse off today than they were in the '60's because of the likes of Johnson, Jackson, Sharpton, etc.

    MLK advocated a strong family, work and education, and earning your way, not the single-mother welfare state that the likes of Jackson, Sharpton, et. al. advocate.

    Instead of cancelling school for MLK Day, looks like they better do the opposite. Add more hours to school day and add more days to the school year.

    Instead of empowering individuals to rise above their lot in life, no matter how unfair it may be, he sought a faster and an easier solution through government dictate. With LBJ and hoard of other feel-gooders, they created an industry that has one goal - to keep the serfs on the plantation, thus perpetuating itself. It doesn't take a prophet to predict the results.

    Why? Actually, MLK had a lot of good things to say to the black community. Too bad they've all been bastardized by those that followed. King was a conservative Republican that advocated non-violent change, a nuclear family, responsibility, and self-sufficiency. NOT being a parasite on society as all those who now evoke his name advocate.
