Sales of Ayn Rand's books have topped perhaps 40 Million. See the topic under Culture about 4 months back. It was voted down to -1. Apparently some people here did not like it. Nonetheless, I find it encouraging.

If you goto their ARI website and read down the lists you will find hundreds of winners and honorable mentions. And those are just the ones who wrote excellent essays.

As an author, I often attend or participate in "Banned Books Week" at my local library wherever I am living. I never heard of any books by Ayn Rand being banned.

    It is an interesting question....

I still remember Fountainhead being assigned at the High School level until the early 70's... too bad Atlas isn't. Maybe humanity would have a chance; of course, the current education system would much rather ban it than embrace it.

"Anthem" is the book for 8th, 9th and 10th Graders. In fact, it is often assigned reading, along with books such as The Pearl, Lord of the Flies, and Call of the Wild.
Prizes range from $2,000 for the First Place winner to 175 Semifinalist acknowledgements of $30, a total of 210 awards in all from first on down.

"Atlas Shrugged" is the book for high school seniors, and college undergraduate and graduate students. First prize is $10,000. 50 Semifinalists receive $50, for 79 prizes in all, first, second, third, finalists, and semi-finalists.

High school students also have the option of choosing "We the Living" or "The Fountainhead."

Moreover, the Ayn Rand Institute provides FREE copies of Anthem, The Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged to any teacher who teaches the book as curriculum material. (Read here: http://freebooks.aynrandeducation.com/or...) Again, Anthem is often an assigned book for middle schools and high schools. So, recommending it to your department or school for your own classroom can be an easy proposal.
