Yeah, note the aspie link. My son's on the spectrum. His mom and I pay close attention to his educational experience. Common Core math is a weapon against all children. I'm glad to see that example in the story. I explain CC math to my friends with the following example: What is 6+7? 13? No. It's 10 and 13. Because "everybody is more comfortable with the number 10". So, you add enough of the 6 to the 7 to get to 10. Then, add the rest.

    Yeah...I know...

six and seven is obviously six and six plus one. -- j

p.s. everyone does it their own way, and this CC
crap is some weirdo's personal quirk ... being
shoved, like Obamacare, down our throats and
the innocent throats of our kids. . . makes me puke.

Too many hear "standards" and think that is a good thing (well, they are, in the abstract). The problem is that they are merely the mechanism being used to wrest control of content and methods from local control. Kasich is an idiot, and this just goes to prove the point.

It's bizarre how shamelessly they politicize something so mundane.

Only half joking, thanks to teachers, when aspies grow up they become me and my colleagues.

I don't agree that it's mundane, CG;;; teachers
give us -- should give us -- the knowledge of the
people who have gone before us, so that we do
not need to expend the energy, but can build on
      the knowledge. . . . very important; muy importante!!! -- j

I'm not saying teaching is mundane. My mom was a teacher. She mentioned how pedagogical theories came and went during her career, sometimes coming full circle.

What amazes me is that how they try to politicize and educational standard. It's almost like a parody showing how un-real politics is, how to get elected it's helpful just to try to politicize anything. The fact that they'll politicize anything shows how disconnectic politics is from real-world decisions and tradeoffs.

and yet politics brackets real-world decisions::: my
last trip to the store was affected by taxes;;; I could
not afford as much as I needed. -- j

I've only briefly in my life been broke, not able to afford things I felt like I needed. It sucked. It felt like things would stay that way forever. Maybe politics played some role in changing things, but I'm sure things I did played a MUCH bigger role. This of course doesn't excuse an over-sized federal gov't.
