Darwin made a good stab at explaining how lifeforms change over time. But so-called "evolution" has become a reductionist religion of progressive education. Life can develop and evolve without "God" but how that happened may not have been explained by Darwin.

"Picard tries to finish his old archaeology teacher's monumental last mission: solving a puzzle that leads Humans, Romulans, Klingons and Cardassians to the secret of life in this galaxy, revealing the origin of humanoid life."

I recommend the book "Biology of Belief" by Bruce Lipton (the first half anyway). It covers the cell biology of epigenetics in a very understandable way.
The second half might appeal to some people, but it gets into a more spiritual approach which does nothing for me.
