Redskins trademark ordered cancelled by judge
O using the government as a club. This is beyond ridiculous.
While we're very happy to have you in the Gulch and appreciate your wanting to fully engage, some things in the Gulch (e.g. voting, links in comments) are a privilege, not a right. To get you up to speed as quickly as possible, we've provided two options for earning these privileges.
One. Consider all the high schools called Aztecs, Conquistadores, Vikings, etc. Are these offensive? Certainly, the first two are named after groups that could well be thought to have opposed each other. Shall we remove the Conquistadores? Then would it not be logical to also remove the Vikings? And so on?
Two. The franchise will not be able to protect its copyright, meaning the effect is that it will lose sales to knock offs. The end result is financial loss for the franchise, a slow bleed of which the judge is well aware. Remember the pre-fight stabbing scene from Gladiator?
Three. This IS beyond ridiculous! The rights respecting culture has used the rights defined by law to deny those same rights. Like a denial of an axiom. Let's have them change the name to the Natives. Nope, possible negative connotation. How about the Native Americans? Nope, there are players who would not be Native Americans, that could be misrepresenting actual Native Americans. How about the American Spirits? Sure! Or better yet, let's just call them The Oppressed!!!
