This was news to me. Does anyone have anything from the NRA to substantiate this? I plugged "nra history" into search engines and I'm not finding anything that backs this up.

          Hello LionelHutz,
Yes, that was an interesting read. I think it unlikely the NRA founders put into their charter such a plank. I see you have found some other information of use below. I did not have time to examine the search results I got with those keywords at the time. I only noted that they produced several pages of returns while your keywords apparently did not... I think it more likely the scenario as portrayed in the Coulter pc. Oh Great Bearded One provided the link for.

I'm not quite sure. I see David Barton and Ann Coulter's names referenced. More digging is required for me to make sense of this.

The search engines have dug up some history from the 1950's where the NRA was assisting with training the black folk. I'm wondering if there's a grain of truth here that's gotten fumbled in the retelling. The only thing I'm doubting right now is the "NRA was founded to counter the KKK" point.

Perfect! Thanks for posting. This is what I think is fair to conclude:
                a. The NRA/anti-KKK stance is a recent one. Not that they were pro-KKK before. It's just the idea that the mission of the NRA was a counter-reaction to the KKK is a false one.
                b. The Republican/Anti-KKK stance is a long-standing one.
                c. The Democrat/pro-KKK stance is a long-standing one. While they are not pro-KKK today, their current cry for gun control (deny all people guns) is just an expansion of an older racist policy (deny black people guns).

I support the right of all people to arm themselves - PARTICULARLY people who feel they are the targets of violence!
