But really, taking Valentine's Day from kids. What's next, Halloween and Christmas - oops, too late. I just hope they still let the students at my Alma Mater paint the streets green and drink that awful green beer for St. Patrick Day.

The solution to this is simple: the parents should boycott the school on Valentines day; keep their kids home. Then they should throw a Valentines party at a local community center and invite all of the kids in the school. There should be plenty of candy and silly things and - for kids with Crohn's syndrome or some such - there should be sweets that they can enjoy (nut bars/white chocolate). khalling noted that the parents were always on the defensive: This is the thing that must be fixed if the war for the right to raise your child is to be fought and won.

They're quite apropos! I'm betting the people proposing this are the same who never got a valentine as children. Now they're crabby old busybodies with nothing better to do than dream up ways to take any fun out of childhood. Appalling. I'd hand out candy to the kids as they left if it wouldn't get me arrested...

Why in the world would a Principal be concerned with managing food choices in classrooms? I would imagine that might be appropriate in the lunch room. I've known a couple of parents that had children that truly had severe food allergies and they seemed to do just fine in teaching their children how to avoid the wrong foods.

But I do see a benefit. Sorry, ladies. No chocolates this year, it's bad for you. I can see that one going over real swell for me. If I'm real lucky, I might get a couch, but I'd bet I'm fixing my own breakfast the next morning.

This is truly just another "re conditioning" of our kids. Hitler believed that you had to retrain the children and this is what this country is doing. From riding bikes to what they eat. The adults have turned over the raising of their children to the state. We are eroding every single personal responsibility we are capable of. Training everyone that permision must be obtained from those who rule.Over the years I have gotten over being angry and am now sad. Just bring it to a quick end.

frankly, you would be surprised at the busy body influence of parents with an agenda. I think parents will react to this, but they're always on the defense. They don't know what crazy thing to expect next. Since no one takes personal responsibility any more, the needs of one(nut allergy person, michelle's health kick agenda) become the burden of all.

It is up to the parents to exert their influence. This continues to happen because too many people do not to make waves, confront so called authority, or want be bothered over "such small things". Hey! Wake the eff up!" It starts with the small things. And why are so many kids allergic to every damned thing now? Yes, I know, there are legitimate allergy concerns, but little candy hearts? As far as being an enjoyable food I think they are on a par with fruitcake, given for the message, not eating. This is another example of control under the guise of looking out for your health. Not their job!!
