Hawaii changed the title of its high school civics course to "participation in democracy" so when I taught that course Bens quote was always posted up front.

This is exactly the reason that our founders established America as a Republic, not a Democracy.

This is a nicve piece of truth, in that in any 2 party system, eventually there exists a schism, where the power of politics overwhelms the original intent. I see nothing today that even resembles the commitments of the original founders, each of the two wolves do nothing but try to steal the others members, and the lambs are in the middle getting chewed on by both. Time for another overhaul, I think...

More socially, and in the name of fairness, it's a vote of the majority on where a group is going to dinner, a vote on what they are going to eat, a vote on how much of a tip should be given, and a vote on who's gonna pay.
