After Earth: M. Night Shayamalan rants on.

There was a time when M. Night Shayamalan told a great story.

Then, with "Lady In The Water" he showed a little ankle and nodded toward the primitive and the collective.

Finally, with "The Happening", he let his Mankind-Is-Destroying-Gaia-So-Here's-My-Fantasy-On-How-They-All-Fucking-Die-If-They-Don't-All-Fucking-Listen-To-ME-Right-Fucking-Now freak flag fly.

That's when I wrote him off.

Why am I not surprised that the latest Eco-Marxist piece of Hollywood crap, After Earth, was partly his doing.

Did I mention that there was a time when M. Night Shayamalan told a great story?

Agreed. After "The Sixth Sense," the closest thing to a good movie 5$ has seen from MNS is "The Village." It seems like the others are missing some key element that tells a good story. "Signs" and "The Happening" seemed to have one-dimensional scripts that could have been written by any journeyman movie-of-the-week author. "Lady In The Water" was a bit more interesting, but also fell flat in the end. You keep waiting for MNS to deliver some great moment of moviemaking, but they just end in the manner of someone promised a great feast who is served only soup and salad with a little garnish.
