The Heat is On
I liked this. pithy.
when I was growing up, I complained about the heat in our 100 year old house. My father would say, "Do you want a tornado? I'll order one, indian style."

I used to spend summers showing Western Pleasure, Trail and Stock Horses. Try the 100+ heat on the top of a horse while wearing leather chaps and a buttoned collar with a scarf. I wouldn't trade it for any air conditioning. We did take a couple of water ski trips in the summer which was nice, but we camped in tents with sleeping bags on the ground. When I got older I played Polo then showed Dressage. Again it was hot. It sure felt good to get wet while washing off the horse when done.
I hope kids are eventually able to get out and do some living where there are no cell phones, air conditioning or fast food restaurants.
I loved the Summer back then. These days the heat and humidity of Oklahoma Summers melts my body in a few minutes and I head back into the air conditioned comfort of my house. I usually spend most of the Summer in Colorado, but have decided to stay at home and bear the heat this year due to the left coast drift that has effected Colorado in the past few years. I will miss my friends, the weather, the mountains and the great selection of craft beer, but feel my money is better spent in a state that still respects, at least, most of my constitutional rights.
I was in my late 20's before I owned my first air conditioned car.
Several weeks back the wife's car lost it's AC, and I have been putting off getting it fixed out of sheer laziness. We use her car for almost all of our chores, and (believe it,or not) she hasn't complained yet. It actually takes us back to our youth in south Florida, and we end up dredging up old memories and laughing as we drive down the road with our heads out the window...like some sort of half dog/half human experiment gone awry.
I might never fix it....
