You wouldn't be able to show the hat (20th century motors) in a one sided phone conversation. :)

I sincerely hope that was the worst scene (because its hard to understand how that didn't get re-shot.) It could have been done as a one sided phone conversation and improved it.

The train scene is pretty much how it is in the movie. The "bum" is now an employee who has a very short story to tell that was, what, 20 pages in the book. I loved that bum...in his dirty clothes, just bouncing around trying to make an honest buck... BUT, I understand the filming and time constraints too.

Since I have had no opportunity to see AS II (I'm in New Zealand) I don't know which parts are in the film. The discussion with Danager, out of context as it is, does not impress. The court scene with Rearden does. <spoiler> The subtext is so powerful... the judge passing sentence " Taking into consideration how totally f^&ked we are if you are in jail, your sentence is suspended".

The train scene about 20th century motors ... I hope that did not make the final cut in that form. Maybe in 6 months I will have a chance to see AS II. Its a shame all the garbage from Hollywood goes international, and a story that every business person should see is unavailable. Thanks for posting that link.
