most obvious thing coming to mind is relevance to fusion. but the benefits laid out were murky at best. this was an ad. more please. :)

Didn't Star Trek's Enterprise use bursts of plasma energy to ward off the 'bad' guys?

They will get the funding...and we will get the tax bill.

  The Navy is already investing in it. Alternative power source for it's fleet or new weapons platform. Possibly a combination of both.

Fascinating! It would be pretty amazing if the problem of external magnetic containment were to be solved in a scalable way. If This is verified in multiple studies, I'd rather invest in this via the private sector than see 'political' govt investments in hot-air operations like Solyndra (sp?)!
