I got that taught to me in Jr. High (read: Middle school), and we called the class "Civics". That was a while back, though.

How far back? Heck, I roomed with Moses in college....

You were on the right track, though, as to the spirit of the law being abused.

This story sort of links to the other recent story of ABC agents and the college girls at the convenience store. Here in my town ABC agents used to send an under-aged kid into the store to try to buy alcohol. This was challenged and ruled to be entrapment, since the store clerk had not broken any laws until the agent initiated, and made, the illegal purchase. Now the ABC agents look for actual citizens who make illegal alcohol buys while still on the store premises, and then bust the clerks for the crime (not the buyers).

He made up some lame story about some car they had like mine in their impound lot from a drug bust a few days earlier.

The reason I was on the side of the road, was because traffic left me no choice but to drive over a thrown tire tread from a big rig. My lower radiator mounts and spoiler were torn loose.

He didn't even go back a quarter mile and clear the tire debris...

There should be. Required reading/instruction, by a non-liberal, ( also a requirement), not pc, but I don't give a flying fig. It needs to be taught by someone who is passionate about why and how this country was founded.

Thank you. My husband would have known this, but being just a lowly artist, (haha), I had a feeling this was an incorrect use of the term. I thank you.

Why don't we have Constitution classes in Middle School? Or sooner? Actually, I don't even trust the schools to teach it correctly anyway. Better question... why don't parents CARE about the Constitution? And how can we revive interest? It IS the perfect example of how and why rational self interest works.

Can I stop the police and search their cars without probable cause?

I was once approached while on the side of the road with a broken down vehicle. The police officer didn't offer any help but asked if he could search my vehicle! I had nothing to hide but I told him no. He did not press the issue, but I was offended by his assumption of guilt, arrogance and lack of respect for the citizens for which he is supposed "to protect and to serve".

It has never squared with me that the police may break the law in order to enforce it. The New motto is "We PROTECT ourselves while SERVING YOU with Injustice!"

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
    4th Amendment
If our students actually had to study the Amendments, they would be forearmed, and so would push back against the States' over-reach. But in this Orwellian type place we're in, our kids have grown up believing they can do anything, and we must ask permission to do something. So conditioned, they unfortunately do not perceive the loss.

they should have to have a search warrant. One should have an expectation of privacy. No where in the 4th Amendment does it limit that right to only your dwelling. It extends to all your property including your car. That it is abused, does not make it right.

"In criminal law, entrapment is conduct by a law enforcement agent inducing a person to commit an offense that the person would otherwise have been unlikely to commit."

This doesn't fit here, since the drugs were acquired beforehand, and not as a result of any drug check, real or faked.

Probable cause for the stop(s) could be challenged, however, in my opinion.
