"During the nineteenth century, mankind came close to economic freedom, for the first and only time in history. Observe the results. Observe also that the degree of a country's freedom from government control, was the degree of its progress. America was the freest and achieved the most." - Ayn Rand

A friend of mine used to say "we are eating our heritage". He believed that our forefathers created a huge reservoir of wealth and we were taking out so much more than we were putting in that it would eventually end. I, foolishly, believed that the intellect, drive and spirit was still within us and we would wake up and go back to work. Robert, you were right. We do not have the creators, the producers and leaders to right the ship. They have shrugged!

The key words in Rand's statement above are "was" and "19th". In some ways, I think that I was born 100 years too late.
