Shouldn't this be handled between a pediatrician and the parent? As well, is BMI testing of elementary age children a good indicator of increased health risk?
form WebMD: "BMI does not take into account age, gender, or muscle mass. Nor does it distinguish between lean body mass and fat mass. "
This is an inappropriate function of any Board of Education and its practice should be left to doctors. But we all thought it was nice they did hearing and vision tests....convenient even...

I never got an answer but there's some hand held device they hold up and look into...And the room has to dark. And no note sent home to the parents that I saw about it.

we looked at the technology. a retinal scan is possible without seeming unusual. 10-15 seconds-lights do not need to be off

Then I don't know what they're checking for but whatever it is it's NOT their place to do it. It overrides the parental responsibilities. I can't believe people don't bat an eye over it or think it's so nice of the school to do that for them. I really wonder what boundary the school would have to step over for them to even notice the intrusion. Ignoramuses!
