"Vote swapping"? He made a deal with12 other people that they would vote for Johnson if he would vote for Clinton. What kind of deal is that? And why would he uphold his side of such a bargain? I'm shocked and disappointed. This was evidently not a prank like the time he started out saying he was born again for Jesus and then admitted he was just "f-ing with you." I feel sadly let down by this "swapping" ploy. Ugh.
It seems like a vote for the lesser of the two evils. The fact that they became candidates instead of others is the issue and that they seem to be the only two considered for presidency. Please forgive me for my ignorance of the U.S, system as I am not from the United States. In spite of the varied choices we have in Canada, it still often comes down to voting for the lesser of the evils. No matter who gets in, we probably will not get true liberty and freedom from the oppressive hand of corrupt government systems.
I completely agree with him. I too chickened out. I realized I was going to chicken out and vote for Clinton a few days ago. If I lived in a completely secure state, I would have voted for Johnson to lower the cost of the Libertarian Party getting on the ballot next time.
I like everything about Gary Johnson except for how he gets rattled by dumb questions. He raises if voice pitch and volume. If you're running for president, you're going to get questions like "most economists agree that dismantling the income tax would be a disaster. How can you go against expert opinion?" He needs to have a claim answer explaining how the experts' claims might not talk into account alternative taxes and spending cuts and then quickly move to the selling points of his plan. Instead he gets as annoyed as I might get, but I'm not running for president.
3:56 of video and the last two seconds were the most interesting ones!! "I'm voting for Johnson, you cowards!"..... well, I'm just an spectator from the very south but very attentive to the result. Damn!, I'm not even voting and feel like losing!.... again!
We have been having the Trump VS Clinton VS Johnson discussion for at least 6 months or more. Jillette's reasoning is specious. Trump is right to rattle the sabers and build up the military. Appearing powerful is the best deterrent to war there is. If Putin knows that the USA has a leader that cannot be pushed too far, he will forsake the pushing. But if he perceives weakness he will go as far as he can as the cowardly Americans let him get away with it. The Jihadists already have deemed the Americans to be cowardly and have gradually upped their game and will continue to do so so long as America constantly steps back from confrontation.
But the election of Hillary will cement in place the crooked cronyism of the establishment and make it stronger in the future. It will be harder to defeat in the future, now that it knows there is opposition
I just fear what Hillary is going to try and do. I hope she gets a divided congress and cant get any substantial laws passed at least for 2 years. She might get a demo congress. We will probably get medicare for everyone no matter what, since Obamacare just doesnt work. We will probably get $15/hr minimum wage anyway, since that has a lot of popular support. We will get a host of new taxes, since congress seems to always want that, and she would sign that into law. Free college she will probably get through, as well as a bailout of the student loan bubble. And say hello to a syrian refugee neighbor or group of neighbors.
Supporting real freedom is a 'between the elections' educational thing, so that eventually we can stop this madness.
Don't get your panties in a wad, term. The day is young. Overall polls are not meaningful. What matters is state by state results. Trump is in his best position in that respect for the entire campaign season. He does need to win some key states, but they are closer today than any time this year. Hitlery will probably need a lot of smelling salts today.
But it cost Trump millions of his own money only to lose to a crooked socialist. No one will try that again. Plus, Trump made outlandish comments that got him a lot of media time. And he already was known from his Apprentice TV show.
Johnson was pretty much ignored by the establishment. He got in a few interviews without the media being after him. BUT, if he had gotten substantial support against the establishment, they would have rallied against him big time and he would have been crushed. I have to hand it to Trump for his standing up to the establishment at his own expense.

There will be plenty of candidates standing up to the establishment after seeing how much support Trump was able to gather against the combined might of the media, the Dems and the RINOs. Whether Trump wins or loses, the establishment is going to be playing defense for the foreseeable future.

Johnson was certainly not "completely run over by the establishment* during his term as governor of New Mexico. And Trump has inflicted more damage to the establishment (especially the media) than the establishment has inflicted on him.
You will get Hillary for the next 4 years. I hope we dont get into war with Russia by accident with her, and I hope the dollar doesnt dissolve into antiquity during that time. There wont be another candidate standing up to the establishment for a LONG time, maybe 30-40 years after seeing what happened to Trump
Political actually is worthless when its so far opposed to what the majority accepts as true. Johnson would be completely run over by the establishment. Look what happened to Trump and Cruz for that matter, and they only tried to slow down the socialist establishment a little bit.
The stated purpose of the LP when it was founded was to use the political process to spread libertarian ideas. For that purpose, it would be a huge win if Johnson/Weld got enough votes to put the next LP candidate into the 2020 debates.
That said, Weld sure ain't helping. I was so disgusted that I almost withdrew my vote from Johnson in favor of Trump, until I remembered the real goal here.
