Here's John W. Campbell on, basically, equality.
Written in 1958.

(John W. Campbell was the editor at Astounding Science Fiction in the 40s, iirc, and mentored many of the great science fiction authors including Heinlein and Asimov. He wrote "Who Goes There?" as Don A. Stuard, the story that was the basis for the movie "The Thing")

"The essence of hyperdemocracy is the denial of the right to difference – the denial of individuality. In that, it is the exact reverse of true democracy; democracy insists on the importance of the rights of the individual."

There it is, in a nutshell'!
