Lily Was Here

Don't think me dino has ever used the Entertainment category before but I wish to share a recent Youtube discovery I made a couple of weeks ago.
Prior to that I do believe I heard saxophonist Candy Dulfer play "Lily Was Here" someplace I can't remember.
Wouldn't ever buy a Candy Dulfer CD because I've found most of her music too jazzy for my Mesozoic tastes.
In another "Lily Was Here" Youtube video Candy said this song was special to her. Well, me dino just loves it.
I prefer this 'un~not because she says nothing at all with her stage shared with guitarist Dave Stewart.
I think the video in the link is the best (and not also because Stewart's face reminds me of a son-in-law, who's different
for being clean-shaven, for my never seeing him wear shades, play a musical instrument and I know he'd never be caught dead in that silly looking suit.) .

The whole record (also Blu-Ray/DVD) of the Vienna Opera House concert that version of "Woke Up Dreaming" comes from is nothing short of excellent. I will warn you though...if you start buying Joe's work, it's a slippery slope...you'll want it ALL. He's definitely what I'd call a "Blues Master". At 40 years old, he's spent nearly his entire life playing guitar (shared the stage w/ BB King at the age of 14) and it really shows in his concert performances. ENJOY!!

Me dino is way, way more into blues than jazz. As for Joe in the link, when he started to pluck, I was thinking I'd like more of a Chuck Berry "back beat you can't lose it" when all in a sudden he exploded and created his own percussion back beat with guitar strings. I really, really liked that. What admirable skill!

If you like the blues feel of the song I posted above, I'd highly recommend The East West Sessions. She does have a couple records that are more "jazzy", but I really like her style. Not sure if you watched or remember when Chef Emeril Lagasse used to have his show on TV, but she was a regular musical guest. That's how I got into her in the first place. PS: Check out Joe Bonamassa if you're not familiar. He's just a ridiculously good guitar player. Here's one song that's a favorite of mine...

Thank you. I have listened to some others on the machine, for instance "When the Foeman Bares His
Steel", and others.Maybe I'll look at the other 2 You
Tube ones later. I don't think of myself as "politically correct", but still, I found out the the Mikado's song originally contained an affront to common decency. It was supposed to be about common annoyances to be punished, and had the lyrics "The lady who dyes a chemical yellow, or stains her grey hair puce/ Or pinches her figger/ Is blacked like a n*/ And painted with walnut juice." I've read that that was taken out in 1947 after complaints on an American tour. (There was also another such reference in Ko-Ko's song. It was taken out too. As it d* well should have been. And shame on Gilbert for putting it in in the first place).

    Enjoyed it.
You might like Jimmy Mazzy. Go to YouTube and do a search for him. His song, "Blue Bungalow" is great.

I hear Ya. I was taught French in grade school and now can remember 2 or 3 words, In high school I took 4 years of German. I can still speak a little, but not enough to actually talk to a German.

Melania is also bright enough to know five languages, English the last one she learned.
As fast as me dino learned Spanish in high school, it began to leak out of my memory banks, though I can still count to ten in that language.

Olduglycarl is sad to remember my chops on the guitar much like the one's from that sax!

A part of my life I dearly miss now that I can't do that anymore.

But it is always great to listen...thanks Dino

Melania is not only a major babe, but she is dignified and self assured, unlike her predecessor, who gives gang signs.

Didn't have time for the whole thing; running out of time now.

Me dino didn't care until I thought about my son-in-law, whose face resembles Dave's features, being told to wear that suit. The thought struck me as funny.

Very unusual to see & hear an attractive woman riffing on a tenor sax.It could have been funny if she wasn't so good.
    Nice.

I do like that version of the song. She kind of reminds me of Mindi Abair in her playing style. You might want to check her out...

This one features the amazing guitar master Joe Bonamassa as a bonus!

Candy Dulfer is one of my Favorite musicians and this song is among her best. Dave is certainly very good accompaniment. As for his suit, who cares?
