It is like "classical conditioning" (anyone who studied biology knows about it; Pavlov and his dogs made it famous): every time she loses or fails, the same reflexive reaction manifests. She blames it on outside factors (right wing conspiracy, her being a woman, unfair press, etc.).

It must be some kind of defense mechanism: she would not be able to face the fact that she is a below par talent in politics and everything connected to it.
