Getting Screamed at in California

Some of you may have heard about the Stefan (sp) something-or-other last name case out here where the police shot and killed a young man. Happened about a year ago. Well, I guess our DA decided this weekend to not try to charge the cops. I haven't followed it, really. But, I guess tensions are high. I was getting my coffee in the office yesterday and heard a couple of the ladies talking about it. I casually mentioned that some "protesters" who are angry about it may decide to take out their frustrations on people who have nothing to do with it (think Reginald Denny, the LA riots). Well, this lady started screaming at me, creating a big scene in the office. I didn't say anything about race or anything like that. It was really bizarre. I commented later that it was the first time in my entire career (started working at 11 years old) that anybody ever screamed at me at work. I guess she disagreed with me, thought that nobody would be violent, and was really wound up about it. It was like an odd psychosis. This is the funny part. As she was screaming and the other ladies were trying to get her to shut up I didn't cower. I just stood there and sipped my coffee. When she took a breath I said, "Why are you yelling at me? I didn't do anything." Just got a blank stare. A lot of people in my situation would have cowered and scurried off. But, I've done nothing wrong...making life much simpler, I've found. There is a lot of tension out there, apparently. I was a bit naïve about it - not watching the news, etc. So, on the bright side, I've learned something.

I would say that being a leftist today is a result of having no emotional control, and the logical collorary to that is a propensity to emotional outbursts with no thought behind it.

Trying to use reason is a useless endeavor in thhese situations since reason isnt what provoked the screaming.

I like Edmund Burkes statement but I think he was mistaken. If good people did not participate in the evil but otherwise did nothing evil would not succeed. Usually the good are complaining about the evil while they support (pay taxes, enroll in its armies, etc.) it waiting to get permission to not do evil.

Most people involved in protests against what they have decided is wrong or unjust are usually in it more for what they perceive could be a benefit to themselves than what is morally or factually correct. I have found that through a little questioning it can be easily discovered that the person who is railing 'that something ought to be done to make the results what I want' are usually uniformed about what really happened.
This does not mean that a mistake or an intent to do harm was not part of the action. The decision to take a side is often determined by race or relationship to the circumstances rather than knowing what the circumstances actually were.

My wife and another senior citizen happened to strike up a conversation about the presidential election in a doctor's office after the 2016 election. Both were happy that Hillary didn't win. As soon as they began to laugh, another lady in the waiting room jumped up and began screaming at them, saying "You're not allowed to say such things! Shut up, or I'll have you arrested!"

My wife just laughed at her, and her conversation partner said "Now, I'm definitely glad Hillary didn't win, if people like you think free speech is a crime." The shrieking continued until the office manager told the screamer that if she didn't calm down, her appointment would be cancelled.

Liberalism is indeed a mental disorder.

If someone takes my hat from my head, can I defend myself from the theft with lethal force.

“...mosquito in the room.” Another quote along this line: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing,”. Edmund Burke

It is called cognitive dissonance. We all need to stand up for our rights. Ignoring the irrational behavior does not require cowering to the fog horn.

Yes, we have been adequately intimidated from voicing our opinions.

Looking at it, it is getting worse. Starting from Google firing James Damore, to all across the country, on campuses and corporate offices, conservative opinion is considered a negative on your resume.

Mind you, being a rabid liberal is welcome. A Cortez, Omar, Harris or Schiff are considered an asset.

That is how far the country has sunk.

When people say "What can I do, I am too small to make any difference", I bring up the words of the Dalai Lama:

“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito in the room."

    That is a fantastic idea!

Antifa would certainly be there, with the dems egging them on then claiming it was all the MAGA people's fault.

Yeah. I think, looking like I do, doesn't help. People assume the worst as soon as I open my mouth, sometimes. I've even had people think I was being sarcastic when I say something simply nice like, "I hope you feel better soon" or other mundane things. It's pretty strange. It's tough being blonde and blue. I'm trying to prepare my son for it.

Communism is alive and well in our country. When MAGA hat wearers are assaulted, it should be considered a hate crime. I'd like to see a national MAGA hat day where we all wear our hats.

Just saw a video where a man wearing a MAGA hat was attacked by a black guy demanding "Take it off".

Actually, there were several cases. Isn't it scary that people can't wear a hat without being assaulted?

I live in New Jersey and do consulting work under contracts with different companies. I learned the hard way to keep ,y mouth shut about Politics, Freedom of speech, and Gun Rights many years ago. Speaking in any non-PC manner is costly when doing consuting. Businesses don't want conflict in the work place so it is eay to loose a contract by being non-PC. They don't say it's for that reason, it is usually "Budget shift
    or "Change in direction".

I'm a couple hours from you. I lived in the bay area, mostly, until I left for college. Never went back. I was taken back by the instant screaming of this woman. I just stood there and took it. Then, responded calmly asking why I deserved to be screamed at.

More and more...I'm seeing people really losing control. Sad to see. I find myself talking to some of those close to me about how if you don't have a decent philosophy to base your life on, you are at a disadvantage. Emphasis on "decent"...

Haha...no. My son likes a red hat I bought years ago in support of our local high school football program. But, I don't let him wear it much.

    You were really brave.

May I ask where in CA? I live/work in the SF Bay Area. Our office is in SF. Our group was very PC, including my boss.

When a controversial event happened, we discussed it but I and one of my colleagues were the only ones of the reasonable side. The others were committed to the banner of the left.

We did not scream at each other, but we all knew what the other represented and was aware that nobody will change his/her standing.

There were extreme events, such as the murder of Kathryn Steinle by an illegal, which solicited unanimous support against the guy who has been deported five times.
