I'd not want to work for a jerk like his employer.

He's probably receiving more job offers than he can handle. I'd want him working with me.

It sounds like he did a very good job of that. He's worth several times an average employee's wage. I predict he won't be missing that clerk job where they fired him for protecting his life and his employer's property.
