I think I might be losing it. I used to think that Libs just didn't think things through. Or, they had a Bill Ayers type agenda. I even thought that the catch-phrase "Liberalism is a mental disorder" was just a convenient way of showing their stupidity. But Liberalism can now be seen as a destructive spiral down into oblivion. It is so hard for me to believe that the Libs are That crazy, and I'm beginning to think that maybe it's me who is nuts. I'll need to have my wife throw some cold water in my face.

CFL's suck -- of course they do, they are mandated by the elites. LED's (created by people finding better right answers) are pretty good and save energy. Private sector once again out performs the bureaucrats.
In cost per mile over the life of the vehicles, including all cost, a Hummer is cheaper than a Prius -- that is, it conserves more resources.
Funny how liberals always say the opposite of what they mean. Their goals are REGRESSIVE. the wish to regress society back to kings, and knights and (other) war lords. We should always make the point to call them the proper thing (regressives, illiberals, anti-socialist, etc.)

Government takes any problem out there and builds it up in order to increase its power. It probably also uses the change in the economy it creates to get contributions from those companies that seek to sell the new products required.

I resent the fact they cost so much and the government forces me to use them. As a result, I just buy fewer bulbs in total and leave them off more of the time. My living standard is decreased as a result, but it would be anyway by the amount I would have to spend on the LED bulbs.

I like LED light bulbs also. The power savings cut my utility bill a bit and I have yet to have one require replacement.

My utility company provided generous rebates on LED bulbs a while ago and even gave some away, hoping to save enough consumption to avoid building a new power plant. So far they have succeeded, so....savings for them, savings for me. Works for me.

The major question, of course, is choice. For the moment, I am free to purchase any sort of light bulb I want. If I was REQUIRED to buy LED bulbs at many times the price of an incandescent or compact fluorescent, I would be very unhappy.

Europeans figured out a far superior solution. They have two flush buttons, little and big. Probably legislated there too.

I can get many, many re-uses out of paper bags. Also they make GREAT starters for fireplaces, perfect construction paper for kids projects.

Paper bags perfect for freezing fish in, better than newspaper. LOTS more uses for paper bags than plastic. Perfect for making love to that ugly girl or guy, can have a one or two bagger night lol. You can see through most plastic bags.

I despised plastic bags. They made baggers lazy, because you can pack 10x as much in a paper bag if packed properly.

If you have not bought a gas can in the last few years, you will find another government ban waiting for you.

The new style government approved cans, are just about the dumbest thing I have ever seen. They take forever to fill with, are prone to break, and spill more gas than would ever be released by the fumes.

But of course, the feds know what is best for you!

BTW: Aftermarket kits are available to adapt these new cans to old style spout, but don't waste your time looking for a sensible gas can, You'll just be told "they don't make them anymore!" Couldn't help but think of Rand as I searched for one last week.

Filaments are very delicate, and most of incandescent production cost is in making its perfectly sealed chamber. LEDs are robust silicon slices, which don't need that protection.
In the very long term, I believe, LEDs will simply compete on price as well, but that is slowed by the government removing one type of competition.

They're not idiots, they're cronies. The lightbulb makers got a few years where you had to buy $15 CFLs because 50 cent incandescents aren't available anymore.

THEIR intentions are more important than reality. But non-SJWs never get the benefit of doubt.

Since our local grocery store has switched to paper because of a county ban on plastic a significant portion of our waste has become paper bags. We could keep months worth of plastic bags in a small space for use walking the dog etc.

I was bemoaning the fact that the ban was going to go statewide this year, when I did a search to fill in the date and found there is hope: instead of going into effect July 1, it is now on hold pending a referendum to repeal it.

Not entirely. We generally do not use higher wattage bulbs in our house so we can still get incandescent bulbs at a good price.

Nevertheless, I've gone through and replaced the incandescent (and the couple of flurecsents -- the ones that haven't self destructed yet) with leds because they do save electrical costs and I like the daylight color I can get.

Of course if we had a rational electric generation policy, electricity wouldn't cost as much but that's out of my personal control.

It really strikes to the heart of Orwellian paranoia, Mammaemma, when you think that the gov is telling us how to shit...

LED lamps would, in a free market, eventually make incandescent lamps almost obsolete anyway. They have most of the benefits, and few drawbacks. The greatest drawback is the high relative cost, but that higher cost is actually maintained by LEDs no longer having to freely compete with the cheap incandescent technology.
