Update: Both Gohmert and Gowdy have said that they refuse to run for the Speakership. Gohmert threw his weight behind Meadows (the one who introduced the motion against Boehner in the first place). We'll see how things play out before I get too hopeful, however, as the other challenger is one of Boehner's lackies.

I think he finally saw the writing on the wall. Remember, it was only a few weeks ago that a resolution was introduced to the House calling for what amounts to a no-confidence vote in Boehner as Speaker. And given his track record of caving to the Democrats on everything and the current Presidential candidates race being led decidedly by non-Establishment Republicans (and in many ways non-politician Republicans given that top four consist of two business leaders, a doctor and a rogue Senator who used to clerk for the Supreme Court) I think he decided it was better to leave on his own terms than get forced out.

Good riddance. Now if only McConnell would step aside as Senate Majority Leader we might be able to actually get something done. I'd love to see Rand Paul or Mike Lee step up. On the House side, I'd love to see Louis Gohmert as the next Speaker - and that mainly because I'd like to see Trey Gowdy stay as Chair of government Oversight Committee until he can get put in as Attorney General.

He pulled a vote to replace him a few days ago because he was fixin to lose, the house Freedom Caucus has been growing in strength and the fact is, they were within two votes of running him off. I would guess he simply took the cowards way out, quitting before he was fired. Theres talk of McCarthy taking the spot and some suggest hes not much of an improvement. I covered an event a couple weeks ago with several members of the Freedom Caucus speaking - we are making serious headway in the house, but, MSM won`t cover it out of fear we will actually be informed. One of my senators, the illustrious Bill Nelson, has already trotted out the old" extremists in congress" shtick. Of course no one in media has thought to ask him his thoughts on all those "extremist" Americans voting in historic numbers in the last two elections to show his party the door...
