I got a letter and signed up for the service this past weekend. All part of cyber security whack-a-mole, but better to be playing the game if you are connected to the grid than pretend you don't need to.

    I am sorry for that.

like to punch people down for spite.

I got a letter from OPM. I followed up, and signed up. It was harmless enough. The 162-page report from all three credit reporting agencies was handy. I archived it. (To do that, I had to cut and paste, as the on-board software does allow printing or saving.)

All the government promises to do is "watch" your basic personal numbers to see if they get used elsewhere. Whether they can achieve that or not was unimportant.

My wife works in computer security. When I got the letter, she told me to follow through.

As for Lifelock, while they seem to have improved in recent years, they remains problematic. See Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LifeLock

I don't know why this was down to Zero. I plussed it back to one.

Also, I did not read the article because I did not want to subscribe to the Knoxville News.

For what little they offered and can do, OPM did far more than any of the major victims of hacking have done: Anthem, Target, Home Depot, ... Most places just fire someone and leave you to deal with the rest.

someone must have thought of that when they were naming
