DOJ overrules FBI on gun sales debate, says no-fly list can be used for ban

This is a rhetorical question, but can you explain to me how someone NOT convicted of a crime can be deprived of their Second Amendment RIGHTS?

    This sentence leaps off the page at me: "Democrats say Mr. Cornyn’s proposal puts too much of the burden on the government." My answer to that would be the Latin maxim, "semper necessitas probandi incumbit ei qui agit," a translation of which in this context is: "the necessity of proof always lies with the person who lays charges."

    I don't fly at all anymore.
    Some years ago I had to travel from Florida to California. We stayed in California for 5 months or so and then would go back to Florida. We did this for four years. During that time, we added 4 to 5 days to our trip each way and drove back and forth in our mini van, rather than put up with the crazy that is American commercial flying. We did a bit of sight-seeing and found the best restaurants along interstate 10. Plus we knew the location of every rest stop on the way. We used the AAA guide books to make reservations as we approached a likely town, and quit driving between 4 and 5 pm. Easy, low pressure traveling, and a far superior experience than flying.

    To answer the question instead of skirting around it nibbling at the edges.....

    How can you have a Constitutionally guaranteed right with no Constitution and no one to guarantee the rights therein? That was supposed to be one of the government jobs. The first thing they did was get rid of all those pesky little rules and the paper they were written on, intentionally lost the war on terrorism and joined the other side.

    The cycle or circle of repression and economic repression continues having lost in Uruguay and Brazil they found new sponsors in the former USA.

    At the present time civil rights and the bill of rights has been suspended and that suspension was increased last Dec 31st. So all discussion of history and what should have been but is no longer will last only...until....the ....first ....arrest ....under the patriot act is made pubic.

    Ha ha on you. They aren't required to make it public.

    The New Yorkers and other of those back eastern cities have a wonderful set of phrases for most situations. Remember the movie about the Philly Eagles. Mikey Mike did a great job when he delivered the line 'don't start playing stupid.:

    The question should be how are you going to defeat left wing fascism in all it's forms and regain constitutional rights? REGAIN.

    By voting for the three candidates of the left?

    The question was indeed rhetorical but I explained it anyway.

    It's possible because too many people are playing stupid.

    Since I don't fly in the USA anymore because of the crappy service and harassment at the airport I don't really care. Most I might do to go to let's see Baja California to Florida is to some Mexico airport then to anything going into near my destination meaning reducing the problem to one border entry point. Back to Mexico would be bus to Texas or Arizona since there also is no direct train service anywhere in the USA anymore. I started with "Since." I better conclude. I never thought of it as a badge of honor but going through the crap of seeing a failed system and a failed government response I would feel a lot safer going my route than using their version.

    That's a good observation I have to think about. I think in this world today, not all rights carry equal weight as if in one size fits all. I don't know what the balance is off hand. But as an example, I don't believe that the horde of refugees being imported at tax payer expense, supposedly for humanitarian reasons, and given special privileges and rights should be equal to the rights as an average american, who doesn't even have access to those special privileges and rights.

    Be patient. I'm sure they'll get around to you. Based on my posts, and before that my letters to congress and to newspaper editors, and other similar activities, the only reason I'm probably not on the no-fly list is because I'm old and decrepit. There are many things which I once considered as being negative that I now think of as being a badge of honor.

    New "laws" will simply be created to make law abiding citizens, criminals and felons. Then it will be a simple matter to deprive us of our rights.

    Oh...there will be the little matter of depriving the rights of an armed citizenry...

    Essentially there is no notification process so you could be on the list for quite some time without knowing it if you don't fly often. Then when you find out there is no mechinism for getting off the list.

    I'm for no fly, no buy. I don't believe in this world of today that a precaution like that is unwarranted. For someone not on the no fly list it's easy for me to support it. I understand that if you are on the no fly list, you should have some timely method of waiver or removal from list. But for now and until we can figure something else out- no fly, no buy. As an avid 2nd amendment supporter, I don't equate such precaution as a violation of my 2nd amendment rights. Therefore, no fly, no buy.

    I have a background check that once allowed me to be hired by super picky Wackenhut Security and I've been a good old dino ever since.
    But I'm also a white right-wing owner of several guns, who thinks that the socialist chairman-in-chief is an impeachable sociopath liar and a traitor to the Constitution he has called a list of negatives. Yeah, a list that stands in his way.
    I also think the fundamental changer's claim that manmade climate change being more dangerous than ISIS is a crock.
    I've also heard it libtard stated that some whitey who uses freedom of speech like me should be considered a terrorist more dangerous than the Islamic variety, which I guess would include ISIS now. Hey, I even live in Alabama.
    So when does that no-fly list apply to me?

    You are absolutely correct....there have been several attempts to shut people down for saying things that make people "feel bad" or uncomfortable. They are very much ok with any sort of restrictions on what they might describe as "those people" that of course would be ....anyone that doesn't agree with them!

    when i was actively flying as a 767 Captain for American Airlines, i could, in uniform, on a paid trip, go right thru security...the next day as a passenger, i was forced to standby while my name was cleared off the "no fly" list as a suspected terrorist...there are 6 different lists...the minute i got my name off of one list and moved on to the next list...it re-appeared on the previous list...the govt has no idea what it is doing...

    The republicans need to add a rider to the democrats bill no fly list, no gun sale bill. They need to add a first amendment restriction for people on the no fly list as well. Lets see if democrats will be so Laze-fair about restricting 1st amendment as second amendment.
