Before screenwriter Duncan Scott worked on Atlas Shrugged Part II, he stood hand-in-hand with Ayn Rand in helping to restore the film that Ayn Rand described "as close to an autobiography as I will ever write."

    I found a first edition of "We The Living" not long after Scott introduced me to "Atlas Shrugged." It is one of the most powerful books I have ever read. Not only does it show what happened immediately after Russia turned to communism and the sad state of any people forced to live under those conditions, it also serves as a cautionary tale for countries such as our that have taken a slow march down the same path. The environment that is found in it is easily recognizable as us in the not-to-distant future if we do not change course. I do not wish to live under those conditions.

    That brings me to the second thought that I had during my reading of WTL, and that is that the idea for Atlas must certainly have come to Rand during the writing of WTL. It must have occurred to her, as it did me, that the providers in Russia at the time of the revolution would have been much better off had they simply made the decision to separate themselves from the society instead of allowing themselves to be simultaneously the financial foundation and the beating dog for the new regime. Such a decision would have certainly shortened the life of the Soviet Union and allowed the Russian people to live free much more quickly.

    Why does it take 2 to three weeks for delivery and then you offer overnight shipping methods? I'll order regardless, but I am perplexed. Is it printed on demand?

    The book was an excellent insight into how people felt, interacted and loved during and after the Communist Revolution.
    That part was interesting and well worth reading just for those insights.
    After the Hero dies and the Heroin makes her attempt to escape Russia, did it turn dark and deeply sad.
    It took me a few nights to get to sleep and not think about the ending.
    "We the Living" will let you know how divided and sad the Russians were.

        I didn't remember drugs being part of the story. :)
        My daughter was named for the heroine in this book-actually the development of the heroine that Rand wrote in a short story many years earlier. I was so happy to see that this movie exists! I cannot wait to see it and of course I'm giving this to my daughter

        If you ain't interested in learnin nuttin then just remane ignorant.
        If you are inquisitive and willing to learn then pay attention. I just gave you a great clue on a great book.
        Now - Shut the F___ up and either shut your pie hole or get the book and read it.

            Why should I put in a "Spoiler Alert" when I merely suggested a good book to read? If nobody chooses to read a particular book that is none of my business or yours. I just passed on the title of a great book. If you don't like suggestions then you can choose to ignore them. THEY are not orders to do so or whatever you felt was intended.

                For what reason? Because someone called me out for making a suggestion and calling a "Spoiler Alert" for the simple idea that I might suggest a good book to read.
                If you must then you must but being sensitive to reactions for simple "reading" suggestions seems rather draconian on your part.
                If that is the type of milk toast type of forum this is then do your best. Cancel me. Be as spineless like the opposition wants us to be - I will not attempt to stop you for I want no part of a "Group" of people who will take offense after demanding "I" put in a "Spoiler Alert" (whatever that is).

          just to get you up to speed-he's a producer of the Atlas Shrugged movie and this website. He's read the book and instrumental in bringing the movie of We the Living to the masses. You guys are on the same team, as it were.
