Same here in the NY Catskills Carl with skim ice on the ponds but we could be back in the 70s in a week or so this time of year. I recently came across a new to me female vocalist and I am totally enjoying here voice. She has an enormous range and great stage presence. Beth Hart who has recently hooked up with guitarist Joe Bonamassa. Her solo album "Fire on the floor" is certainly worth a listen.
Being against the Vietnam War was one of the few things I got right back then. Besides calling the Domino Theory malarkey, one of my arguments was the "run around cowboys and Indians" way it was being fought. So many years later I found this History Channel "The Art Of War" documentary that included Vietnam absolutely fascinating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGHLO...
Vietnam war was just evil. LBJ's great society made way for Bushes boy Nixon to lead many to Carter. He was a disaster so back to Reagan/Bush.Then Bush. Clinton twice Bush again . All the time slipping into a dis functional corrupt mess.
Very cool. Not the same in fact polar opposite lbut I saw Willie Nelson play in San Antonio while visiting there. A real cultural expirience with Cowboys lining up along the stage to have Willie wear their hat for a moment while playing.
Me dino was never a druggie, but I was an angry over Vietnam and stuff lib back then. In my own way I was sloppy dead and had a lot of logic and proportion evolving to do and did. Finally, I reached the point where Jimmy Carter made me desperate for Ronald Reagan to make him go away.
She performed at the NY Metropolitan Opera for over 10 years in the 80s-90s, I think, but I never went to any NY Met performance. Because of that New Year performance, I made a point to go to the opera while in Vienna in '91 - standing room on the day of the show for $3 (plus standing in line for 3 hours.) The performance of La Bohème was amazing. (The symphony was not performing while I was there;^(
I first heard that performance on New Years Eve '87 and I think it might have been a few hours delayed from the live show in Vienna. I have had a copy on my laptop for years and have shared it frequently. When I was in Brisbane Australia a few years ago there were 2 young aspiring opera singers (staying at my mate's small hotel) attending an opera clinic there-by invitation only, so they were very good. They were only 17-18 and had never heard Kathleen Battle sing, and were quite impressed with the performance.
Wow you have that right standing ovation to Kathleen Battle. First you have to have the talent Then the dogged devotion to practice practice practice.....did I say practice. Great addition for any following this entertainment post (OUC) .
Just listen to this. https://youtu.be/lhm3UqRJFBc Thanks Freedomforall it was just fabulous. The clarinet is such a sweet sounding instrument. Artie Shaw was a genius playing it.
It drives mine of 25 years nuts! But, what can I say, I get bored or reach a certain level of competence then move on or are lead to other related things. For instance: from Musician to a recording studio to sound systems, car stereo and installations, (small chain of stores), to country western dance teacher all the while working and advancing in the printing world until it's collapse in 1995 ending as production manager...guess we could add...writing books to that thread. So how's that for "hope and change" ? laughing.
Not to mention everything in between and an invention or two along the way. Have no idea where my current path will lead me...but that's what's so exciting about this life style.
July and early August I was able to harvest dozens of tomatoes .August was wet and very cool. I started getting leeches or slugs eating into the crop ruining the rest of the crop.
Talk about treasures, last night and this morning I am enjoying Artie Shaw's clarinet antics (on Spotify.) In the past few years I grown to love the amazing creativity of clarinet greats Pete Fountain and Benny Goodman, and now Artie.
