What you may not realize, and none of us knew, that the probability of a micro nova event was hidden from most everyone back in 1958...that is when NASA was first commissioned. Our Sun and our Earth go through cycles where we get a micro nova events from the sun (which has been noticed for quite some time now, on many other stars like ours) and Magnetic pole reversals here on earth.
These cycles occur every 12/15K years.
